Generic Sign Systems, Inc. was launched in November, 1980, in Schaumburg, Illinois. Generic can design and provide signs and interior/exterior sign systems, usually in the business to business area. Generic designs entire systems and has solved numerous sign situations where wayfinding must be resolved carefullly for the facility visitors. Generic also does many site and lobby identification signs where owners are looking to present a quality image to visitors. Types of clients range from most types of corporations to hospitals, banks, libraries, commercial buildings, shopping centers and colleges. Some of the systems designed include: Wayne Kosterman, President, is a graduate of Illinois Institute of Design after spending two years in the architectural program. He has written national articles on sign design for Contract Magazine, American Library Association, and Step by Step Magazine, lectured to community and college groups, and judged national sign competitions. He is one of the founders of the Society of Environmental Graphics Designers, and former board member and treasurer of American Center for Design. He also taught visual problem solving at Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. Generic is capable of providing straightforward "generic" solutions as well as those considered "beyond generic."
